Message from Henry Cannington
Flashing on your cellphone, you see a glaring headline Accidents Kill Four Teens. A nightmare for anyone who knows or works with students. You quickly scan the message for names, hoping to find no one you recognize from Taylor County. Relief floods your heart when you fail to see a name you recognize...you breathe a prayer of thanksgiving. Suddenly you are struck by the fact that for others who read this article the tragic recognition came with its heartbreaking pain. Life's uncertainty comes into sharper view, reminding us as Christians of how our community needs churches that show God's love and compassion for all.
As we enter into the Easter season, it gives us great joy to know we serve the living and true God who loves and cares for all (John 3:16). Before Jesus went back to heaven, He appeared to over 500 people, He gave the command to go?a command that has been passed down through the ages for each of us to follow in His footsteps and to share God's provision and love for all (John 20:19-21).
What are our Taylor Baptist churches to do in light of this mission as we step into spring? If we want to make a difference for the good of our community that we love and the glory of God we seek, Jesus said we must go and tell. What that means is...we must get involved with our friends and neighbors. To be effective in this goal, our churches must care, share, and dare.
Having compassion for others is a priority before anything else can take place. Our churches become networks of God's involvement and concern for everyone in Taylor County. That's the challenge of our church life?to take the gospel even to those who aren't in a church but who definitely need our Lord. We must care!
The goal or commission for each of our churches is to take the good news of God's love wherever we go and to follow through in the lives they touch. Let our Taylor county churches be known for sharing the story of Jesus. Each church must share!
The challenge is before us. The need is obvious. The task is ours. What does everyone in Taylor county need that our Baptist churches have? The gospel. We must be willing to dare in telling God's good news for all (Matthew 28:19). Taylor County needs churches that will take the dare.
Thank you to all our churches in the Taylor Baptist Association that seek to provide a place for everyone, but also has a goal in mind?everyone in a place. Check out all the activities our churches have going on this month. I know there's a place waiting for you!
Henry Cannington
